Grad Employee Wisdom Teeth 101

UMass Student Health Plan Coverage for Impacted Wisdom Teeth
MetLife Coverage for Oral Surgery

Oral surgery is covered under our MetLife PDP Plus dental plan at 80%. Please review the complete plan description before scheduling an appointment.  It's preferable in terms of cost to use an in-network dentist, but you can also use an out-of-network provider.  Please find a sample list of in-network oral surgeons to the right--always confirm a dentist is still in-network when you contact them. You can also search for an oral surgeon in any zip code at https://www.metlife.com/

When having oral surgery, make sure to provide the dentist with your student health plan (CHP) card, in addition to your dental plan information. Wellfleet may provide a limited benefit for wisdom teeth extraction if the wisdom teeth are impacted.  You can confirm this prior to surgery by contacting Wellfleet: (877) 657-5030

Be prepared: Always Ask for a Pre-treatment Estimate

It is a good practice to ask for a pre-treatment estimate. Your dentist or specialist will send MetLife a plan for your care and request an estimate of benefits. The estimate helps you prepare for the cost of dental services. We recommend that you request a pre-treatment estimate for services in excess of $300. Simply have your dentist submit a request online at www.metdental.com or call 1-877-MET-DDS9. You and your dentist will receive a benefit estimate for most procedures while you are still in the office. Actual payments may vary depending upon plan maximums, deductibles, frequency limits and other conditions at time of payment.
